GRADUATE LEVEL PROGRAMS
Graduate level programming refers to our programs for students who are older or more advanced. In general these programs are for students ages 12 and up who have either graduated from the Little Bands Academy or have acquired instrumental or vocal skills somewhere else. If you are new to Grekin Music and would like to be part of our Graduate Level community, please schedule an appointment so we can place you in an appropriate program to your skill level. For this level we offer our community program, bands, and private lessons.
Graduate Level Community Program
Graduate Level Community Experience is designed to utilize the most effective music learning tool there is - being part of a musical community. GLCE will meet once a week on Saturdays at the Neutral Zone in downtown Ann Arbor from 12:30-2:15. Students will be placed in ensembles and classes each semester and work on important skills such as music theory, ear training, recording, composing and more. Young musicians will also get a chance to socialize, eat together, and play music in a variety of different situations with other members of our musical community. Not only does this foster a sense of belonging and community, but it is a fabulous way to increase musical skills exponentially. GLCE members are required to help teach younger, less advanced students a minimum of 2 hours per month. This activity helps advanced students solidify their own skills and also connects the community. If you are in one of our graduate bands, or are taking private lessons from one of our teachers, you can join this program for half the price. We want this to be affordable so everyone can join and young musicians have the chance to meet each other and play together. Scholarships will also be available soon.
Graduate Bands
Graduate Bands are intermediate to advanced students who are coached by a Grekin Music teacher through the process of being a band. Graduate Bands can be formed by a group of friends, or we may connect musicians together who are at a similar level who we think would be a good fit (or a combination of both). Graduate Bands meet once per week and are assigned a teacher/coach. These are student-centered bands and, although the coach will have the final say in band decisions; the goals, direction, and material the group plays will be determined mostly by the band. Coaches will help the band compose, arrange and record music, book gigs, and navigate a brand and direction for the group that promotes individual and band growth. If you are already in a graduate band, you can register for the bands below and for private lessons on the "Private Lessons" page. If you will be joining us for the Graduate Level Community Experience as well (and we truly hope you will) you can also add that to your carte below. Being in a graduate band requires private lessons. If you take lessons with someone outside of Grekin Music, just let us know. If not, please see our "Private Lessons" page to get registered.
